Background of the Study

Nurses are key healthcare professionals in promoting optimal child growth and development, particularly through parental counseling. In Borno State, where the health system faces challenges due to conflict and displacement, nurse-led parental counseling can play an essential role in ensuring that children receive adequate care in the early stages of development. This type of counseling typically includes guidance on nutrition, developmental milestones, immunization, and early childhood care practices (Ibrahim et al., 2023). The role of nurses in empowering parents to understand and support their child's growth and development is critical, especially in settings where access to specialized pediatric care may be limited.

This review will examine the influence of nurse-led parental counseling on child growth and development in Borno State, assessing the effectiveness of these interventions in promoting healthier developmental outcomes.

Statement of the Problem

Child growth and development in Borno State are often compromised by factors such as poor nutrition, lack of access to healthcare, and limited parental knowledge about child development. Nurse-led parental counseling has the potential to mitigate some of these challenges, but its effectiveness has not been fully evaluated in the local context.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To evaluate the influence of nurse-led parental counseling on child growth and development in Borno State.
  2. To assess the knowledge and practices of nurses in delivering counseling on child growth and development.
  3. To identify challenges in implementing nurse-led parental counseling in the state.

Research Questions

  1. How does nurse-led parental counseling influence child growth and development in Borno State?
  2. What is the level of knowledge and practice of nurses in delivering counseling on child growth and development?
  3. What barriers hinder the effectiveness of nurse-led parental counseling in Borno State?

Research Hypotheses

  1. Nurse-led parental counseling positively influences child growth and development in Borno State.
  2. Nurses have adequate knowledge and skills in delivering effective counseling to parents on child growth and development.
  3. Barriers such as cultural beliefs, lack of training, and limited resources reduce the effectiveness of nurse-led parental counseling.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

This review will focus on nurse-led parental counseling programs aimed at promoting child growth and development in both urban and rural areas of Borno State. Limitations may include challenges in evaluating long-term developmental outcomes and access to accurate data on parental counseling practices.
